Running is considered to be an inexpensive sport. If you want to run for leisure only, then basically all you need is a T-shirt paired with shorts plus a pair of reliable running shoes and you are ready to take-off. However, if you decide to take running to the next level, by joining races for example, then it is much better if you try to look at other running gear as well.
Running gear is not only needed during race days but also in trainings as well. You will need it to aid you in reaching your goals and keeping you comfortable. The following are the basic gears for running:
• Running Shoes
Of course, shoes are the basic requirement when you run. Running shoes are especially manufactured to cushion your feet and protect it from injuries. Make sure you pick the right shoe that is not too tight to allow enough room to your foot. Ideally, pick a shoe size that is larger by half an inch to that of your street shoes size.
• Running Watch
A running watch is needed by a runner to monitor the specific time spent while training. Most likely, a runner looks for a watch that has a countdown timer and records running segments per session. Nowadays, GPS watches have become more popular because of their tracking ability (position and distance), and they also display the speed or pace of the runner.
• Pedometer
If you don’t have a GPS watch then a pedometer can help you with your training. A pedometer measures your running distance and stride. It is attached to your shoe and counts every step that you take.
• Hydration Tools
Hydration is needed, especially when you do your longer runs. There are several options to choose from for your water storage. Water bottles may cause a little inconvenience but still runners prefer to use them. A CamelPak is another option and is easily attached to your waist. It has a tube and a mouthpiece that you can use everytime you want a drink. Another option is a fuelbelt. It is attached to the waist but has the convenience of an even distribution of weight of the drinks.
• Sunglasses
Protect your eyes from the sun’s UV rays. Since most running schedules include running during daytime, wearing one of these is essential.
• Running Holders
This should also be included into your list of must-have running gear. Listening to good tunes on your MP3 or iPod keeps you motivated.
